All generations of Zamorano students have learned to work with their hands, as well as learn modern theoretical-scientific knowledge in the classrooms and laboratories. Wilson Popenoe ensured that the main goal of a Zamorano education would be to acquire practical skills.

1941
The Board of Directors of the United Fruit Company agrees to support Samuel Zemurray’s efforts to found an agricultural school in Central America.

1942
Dr. Wilson Popenoe hired as Director of the Pan-American Agricultural School. Construction of main buildings on campus begins.

1960
In June, sixty young men arrive to begin study at Zamorano.

1955
Richard M. Nixon, then Vice President of the United States delivers the graduation speech.

1957
Dr. Wilson Popenoe retires; William Paddock becomes the new president of Zamorano.

1958
Admissions requires all applicants must have a high school diploma.

1961
School adopts 15-week trimestre calendar; academic year begins in January.

1981
First female students matriculate.

1983
First four female students graduate; one, Ana Maria Girón, is top of her class.

1986
The United Fruit Company ends its financial support of Zamorano.

1987
Zamorano begins a fourth year optional program for current and former graduates.

1998
Zamorano pasa de un título académico de tres años, a uno de cuatro años. La Escuela se amplía para ofrecer carreras en cuatro disciplinas: Administración de Agronegocios; Ciencia y Producción Agropecuaria; Agroindustria Alimentaria; Desarrollo Socioeconómico y Ambiente.

2003
El Dr. Kenneth Hoadley inicia funciones como rector de Zamorano.

2004 – 2007
Fundación de los cuatro Centros para la Investigación y la Innovación: Biodiversidad, e-Learning, Emprendedorismo, y Energía Renovable.
