Zamorano and the Private Sector

“As an agricultural university that is a pioneer in applied research, Zamorano has developed important alliances with the region’s private sector. Many companies come to the institution seeking know how – knowledge transfer, consulting, process analysis, training or joint projects,” explains David Moreira, Coordinator of External Business Projects.

The prestige Zamorano has earned during seven decades of forming hundreds of Latin American, position it as an international center for consulting. Zamorano has the necessary infrastructure including research laboratories. Other assets include a teaching body with expertise in different areas and the proven effectiveness of Learning by Doing. “More and more agroindustrial companies are coming to Zamorano in search of consulting for new product development, process analysis, quality management and training,” stated Ms. Flor Núñez, Head of the Research and Development Agroindustrial Plant.

One particular example is the alliance that Zamorano has formed with the agricultural company, Monsanto, to carry out evaluations of genetically modified maize and its susceptibility to external agents, among other research projects. Other alliances include that with Compañía Azucarera Tres Valle for technified management of sugar cane production and another with  Agropecuaria Lafise providing consulting on the technical assistance model of their productive chain. Other companies, such as AVIMEX (Mexico) ; Chemonics – El Salvador; IAGSA, S.A. de C.V (Mexico); Agrotain Int. L.L.C. (Internacional; Ingenio Pantaleon S.A. (Guatemala); International Development Research Centre (Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru) and many more maintain strategic alliances with Zamorano.
