ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT
“Welcome to the Zamorano’s Department of Food Science & Technology mostly known as Agroindustry (AGI). By means of a high quality technical-scientific program we give an integral formation to professional leaders who are capable of successfully working in the regional or global food agroindustry.
For decades Latin America has been to a large degree an exporter of raw materials, lacking the knowhow to transform them into finished goods. Since 2002, Zamorano’s Food Agroindustry career has sought to form professionals specialized in the transformation of agricultural products and creating added value, facing the challenges to the region such as moving from emerging economies to industrialized ones and increasing competitiveness in a globalized world.
Our educational model is grounded in the application of practical work combined with the science and research on new technologies in the food agroindustry. Our career integrates a formation in basic and agricultural sciences, food technology and engineering, industrial engineering process management and administration, among other elements to be applied in the processing, commercialization and adding value to food products and the related managerial skills.
We have highly qualified professors with specialties in the abovementioned fields and Zamorano has the best infrastructure in the region. We are the only university in the area that has an industrial park where the students do practical work, learning and directly participating in the industrial preparation of food products. We also have laboratories of analysis and food microbiology where our students can evaluate food safety, quality and shelf life, as well as a pilot plant for new product development.
Our graduates our successfully positioning themselves in the labor market thanks to the growth in the agroindustry sector and the dynamic nature of our program. The profile of a Zamorano graduate is synonymous with excellence and in the Food Agroindustry career we offer the world not only Agroindustrial Engineers but true agents of change.”
