Director´s Welcome
Environmental degradation and underdevelopment are among the most pressing challenges facing Latin America in the 21st century. The Department of Environment and Development Studies (EDS) dedicates its resources and diverse talents to understand and find solutions to those structural problems. The department is composed of multiple disciplines that believe appropriate technology and inclusive development can promote a more sustainable and equitable use of the environment and natural resources.
The Department of Environment and Development Studies is home to an outstanding academic program as well as three internationally recognized Centers for research and knowledge generation: the Zamorano Center of Renewable Energy, Zamorano Center of Biodiversity, and the Paul C. Standley Herbarium.
The EDS is committed to an integrative approach to teaching, research, and extension service. Our academic program is intentionally multidisciplinary and focused on training the next generation of innovative, environmental leaders. Our main areas are Hydrology and Watershed Management, Biodiversity and Environmental Technology.
To join the EDS is to join a group of individuals who believe in creating a more environmentally friendly and egalitarian world. All our students are schooled in envisioning and producing a better and more just future.
If you are seeking an undergraduate course of study, I encourage you to be part of our future.
