Life at Zamorano

“The school uniform, the daily responsibilities, the academic load -- all the small details of daily life at Zamorano -- build a “can-do” attitude in the students, and this now proves invaluable to me as I pursue an advanced degree.”
Jeanette Collart
Honduran, Zamorana 2007

Zamorano campus has a culture all its own. All students live on campus – and most of the faculty and staff as well — which provides numerous opportunities to learn and grow outside the classroom. Dormitories regularly organize group events, such as fundraisers for trips, dinners, dances, movie screenings, and parties. Professors and staff host informal dinners and gatherings at their homes. The shared environment encourages social development and personal growth and contributes to the enduring friendships found among students, alumni, and faculty.

On site, students have the services of a clinic, barber, hair salon, shoe repair shop, and laundry, as well as a grocery store, a pharmacy, and a book store. The ecumenical chapel holds a service on Sundays. Students also have ample opportunity for sports and athletics.

In addition to the tennis courts, basketball court, swimming pool, gym facility and soccer field, the campus has kilometers of roads and paths on which to hike, bike, horseback ride, and jog.

The Wilson Popenoe Library offers scholarly and popular books and magazines, access to over 5,000 journals and scientific publications online, and a collection of DVDs and other media for education and home-viewing entertainment. A small but impressive modern art collection showcasing Latin American artists is on view in the library and select other offices.

An academic beacon in Central America conveniently located near Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, Zamorano hosts a number of conferences and seminars. Throughout the year, the university community can enjoy lectures, screenings, and scientific demonstrations on campus. Annual special events include a performance by the Honduran Symphony, the Zamorano Fair, and the Panamerican Festival.

Zamorano’s student support services help students deal with life situations that might otherwise hinder academic progress and success.
