The University

Alison Bixby Stone School

Alison Bixby Stone School was founded in 1964 to attend preschool, the university ZAMORANO donated one of the buildings adjacent to the homes of employees and since that date it has promoted from the preschool level that by 2016 is developing the 7th and 8th, as a Basic Education Center

Our vision is to be considered in terms of curriculum, instruction and assessment as one of the top bilingual elementary schools and teacher training centers in Central America.

The mission of the Alison Bixby Stone School is to provide children of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, a stimulating and challenging educational environment that fosters intellectual, social and emotional growth while instilling an awareness of environmental responsibility and the understanding that learning is a life – long process that is both meaningful and enjoyable.

The ABSS is hiring a Preschool English Teacher to teach on a permanent basis starting August 1, 2018. This is a full-time position.

Expected qualifications:

  • Intern or Bachelor degree in elementary education.
  • Fully bilingual – English/Spanish
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience with students of different nationalities, native languages, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to student success and whole-person development.
  • Strong and effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams.


  1. Support the classroom teacher.
  2. Collaborate in centers, morning circles and any other help requested by the teacher.
  3. Observe the children at all times (activities inside and outside the classroom, during recess, snack, lunch, special classes).
  4. Assist children when going to the bathroom if necessary.
  5. File the student’s worksheets of the order of the class.
  6. Assist the teacher in keeping all classroom materials in place.
  7. Reinforce students who need additional help.
  8. Support class planning by providing ideas to improve student learning.
  9. Support the teacher in the main classroom to brainstorm and write down the student’s information.
  10. Replace other teachers when requested.
  11. Collaborate with all school activities.
  12. Walk the children to another classroom and lunch area.
  13. Supervise students during morning recess and lunch, and dismissal time.
  14. Reach the established objectives for the school year.
  15. Help collect all the information requested in the teacher’s portfolio.
  16. Help student behavior to improve student learning.
  17. Help the teacher meet the standards set during the school year.
  18. Support the teacher in the parent meeting and conference days.
  19. Collaborate with any other activity requested by the Academic Director.
