ABSS’ elementary offers a learning environment that both nurtures and challenges students to grow academically and as individuals. Students at ABSS receive whole group instruction through mini lessons. Teachers scaffold their teaching and model best practices.
We provide flexible classroom routines in which students work in pairs or in small collaborative groups engaging in discussions, and establishing positive shared experiences enriching their critical thinking.
Our literacy workshop consists of a balance between independent, guided and shared reading.
Our school offers students a wide range of books in the different genres and for all ages which helps students to develop a deep appreciation for literature.
Students are motivated to publish their writing pieces following the writing process and writing traits.
Science and social studies units are integrated throughout the curriculum using an inquiry base approach.
Students’ progress is monitored through assessment for learning and of learning.

An engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically.
Classrooms are divided into groups to work in centers. A learning center is a self-contained section of the classroom in which students are able to engage in independent and self-directed learning activities. Centers allow easy access to a variety of learning materials in an engaging, interesting and productive manner.
Mental breaks designed to help students stay focused. Brain breaks provide processing time for students to solidify their learning, re-energize the brain and take a break by moving. Typically a break is a quick physical activity that will help students refocus.
LEARNING BY DOING
Under the umbrella of EAP Zamorano, ABSS also applies this philosophy as learning strategy. The learning by doing academic component makes us a unique educational institution. We work on developing leadership, skills and abilities of our students with activities that reinforce their knowledge.
Annually, Widener and Purdue University students visit ABSS to develop different programs to reinforce kids learning. We also have other international guests.
Students receive differentiated learning by different teachers depending their needs.
