Ecuador: Instrumental analysis of oils and fats

Gladys did her internship in the research and development area of La Fabril S.A. Company, located in Manta, Ecuador. She helped in the development of chemical instrumental analyzes of palm oils and fats (Elaeis guineensis), olive (Olea europaea), canola (Brassica napus), corn (Zea mays) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus). The goal of these analyzes was the contined improvement of existing products as well as the development of new ones.

Among the studies conducted were a fatty acid profile analysis thru HPLC, the profile of fatty acids with the use of gas chromatography, calorimetric analysis, spectrophotometry, solids, oxidation stability index in biodiesel, and the peroxide and calcium index in fatty “by pass” for livestock feed. “The learning has motivated me to continue my studies to refine my abilities in research areas and apply them in the agro industrial sector of my country, El Salvador”, she added.
