Italy: Soil study for crop production

Intern: Luis Enrique Chinchilla Hernández- Agribusiness Management

Luis did his internship at Udine University in Italy. The university frequently performs research activities aimed at solving everyday problems found in crop production. As part of his training, Luis helped with research focused on soils and the objective was to immobilize potentially toxic metals in soils and in the crops grown in those soils.

To develop this research, Luis applied all the training he had received in previous courses on soils and experimental analysis to determine ways to collect data. He did a soil sample collection in which he modified and added chemicals that was used afterwards as part of the study. According to Luis, the application of these experiments can help improve production and thereby improve the economy of farmers.
