In 2014, Zamorano embarked on a process to reflect on and analyze the steps it needed to take to maintain its leadership within Higher Agricultural Education. As part of these efforts, the Office of the President, through Institutional Effectiveness, conducted an external survey to establish how alumni, employers, recognized leaders and agricultural experts imagined Zamorano over the next 15 years. More than 100 individuals within the Institution, including students, faculty, administrative staff and field personnel, were surveyed as well. These views provided the guidelines to determine the type of strategic actions that needed to be implemented. By the end of 2015, the Special Strategic Planning Committee (CEPE) and the Board of Trustees developed the 2017 - 2021 Strategic Plan in a participatory manner.
This is a process unlike any other experienced in the last 20 years, and would constitute an institutional shift toward systematizing and monitoring processes, in response to international standards.
