Alison Stone, Ph.D.
Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees
As president of the Board of Trustees of the Panamerican Agricultural University, known as Zamorano, I want to invite you to visit our website to know who we are and what we do. In June 2011, I was elected by my colleagues as the new chairwoman; an honor and responsibility that allowed me to be my family’s fourth generation that remains associated with this university —I am the great granddaughter of our founder, Samuel Zemurray, and granddaughter of Doris Zemurray Stone who was dubbed as godmother to Zamorano. As fiduciaries, we are fully committed to this great institution. Together, along with the management team and highly qualified teaching staff, we are always ensuring that Zamorano’s mission and vision are fulfilled. We work jointly on maintaining sustainable financial stability and academic standards of excellence to offer our undergraduates the education necessary to become promoters of development in each of their countries. We volunteer because we know that Zamorano has a highly positive impact on the lives of the Latin American people. We offer our time, money, and passion, and work hard to raise the necessary funds to give our youth the opportunities to develop professionally and, in turn, improve the quality of life of others through our service. At Zamorano, we promote coexistence in an atmosphere of Panamericanism, where differences of gender, nationality, and socioeconomic status are not barriers to our students, but rather elements that encourage the formation of character that will make them capable of becoming leaders who serve their communities. Our Board is a reflection of Zamorano: It is integrated by 19 experts in various fields who represent different countries; four of our members are Zamorano graduates, and three of us are women. Despite our differences, we all share our love for this institution. We believe in Zamorano’s ability to produce real and significant changes in the region through our students and graduates who, ultimately, are our greatest source of pride. In Zamorano, you will find all the elements for a unique and modern education through four specializations: Agricultural Sciences and Production; Food Science and Technology; Agribusiness Management; and Environment and Development. We have a new 2012-2016 Strategic Plan for continuously maintaining our institution at the forefront of education. I thank you for visiting our site and invite you to explore it and learn more about our university. We hope you have the opportunity to visit our campus someday so you too can personally experience what it feels to belong to the Zamorano community. A friendly greeting for everyone,
