Zamorano was the headquarters of the XIII INNOVAGRO Meeting

The Innovation Route of the event presented innovations by Zamorano and IICA in Honduras

The Pan American Agricultural School, Zamorano, was the headquarters of the Innovation Route of the XIII Meeting of the INNOVAGRO Network, which took place from November 13 to 15.

The Innovation Route of the XIII INNOVAGRO Meeting aimed to show concrete examples of relevant experiences on innovations for sustainability and food security in Honduras. It had the participation of representatives of the INNOVAGRO Network in Mexico, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Campus of International Excellence in Agri-Food (ceiA3) of the Universities of Almería, Cádiz, Huelva, Jaén and Córdoba in Spain ; the Honduran Agricultural Research Foundation (FHIA), the Association of Sugar Producers of Honduras (APAH), the Alliance between Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) of the CGIAR, Zamorano and agricultural producers from the Department of El Paraíso.

Zamorano officially joined the INNOVAGRO Network in January 2023, joining 70 institutions that promote innovation in the agri-food sector in the Americas, the Caribbean, Spain, the Netherlands and Israel. The Innovation Route of the XIII INNOVAGRO Meeting is the first in-person event that Zamorano organizes within the framework of the Network.

The people who participated in the meeting visited the facilities of the Zamorano Agroecology Teaching-Learning Center, where they were able to learn about the main lines of agroecological research and innovations that the Pan American Agricultural School promotes among its students and producers. They also visited the laboratories of the Department of Environment and Development, the seed production plant, and the Zamorano sustainable livestock modules.

Finally, the participants visited the farm of producer Pedro Sosa in Cuzcateca, department of El Paraíso, who shared his own experience and that of his group of producers in the implementation of technological innovations promoted by the AGRO-INNOVA project, implemented by the Institute Inter-American Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) with financing from the European Union.

The Innovation Management Network in the Agri-Food Sector (Red INNOVAGRO) is a platform specialized in the promotion and management of agri-food innovation and the development of capacities to consolidate the institutionality of innovation, relationships and strengthening of National Systems of Agri-Food Innovation of the countries represented through its members. 71 research centers, public sector institutions, universities, business organizations, foundations, regional networks and systems, civil society organizations, national systems, international organizations and financial institutions from 15 countries (12 from America and Spain) participate in the INNOVAGRO Network. , Holland and Israel).
